度·BESPOKE's womenswear system has stood on its own since the house opened — power suits are its earliest and deepest category, with a dedicated pattern library and cutting standards. These are the five decisions we discuss at every first fitting.
One: the shoulder sets the authority
A natural shoulder reads relaxed; a touch of padding reads structured. For a first power suit we recommend a slight shoulder — straight from behind, invisible from the front — as much at home in a banquet as a boardroom.
Two: darts resolve the bust-waist drop
The heart of womenswear fit is a much deeper bust-waist difference than menswear. Dart position and length decide whether the chest lies clean and the waist reads sharp. Ready-to-wear averages its darts across all bodies; bespoke redraws them on yours — the single biggest difference between tailoring and a scaled-down men's jacket.
Three: skirt or trousers
How to choose
- Trouser suit: the default for daily leadership and speaking — mobile, direct.
- Skirt suit: higher formality — ceremonies, boards, wedding banquets.
- First suit trousers; second suit skirt — then two jackets work four ways.
Four: cloth and colour
Deep navy, charcoal or off-white for the first; a four-season mid-weight worsted, matte rather than shiny — the authority of a power suit is quiet. Checks, brights and silk blends come later.
Five: which occasion is it for
The most important question. Daily leadership, a listing roadshow, a board meeting, representing the company at a gala — each pulls the design differently. A designer asks about the occasion before the style; that is what one-to-one design means.
